Thinking Skills

In order to prepare your  children for living and learning in the 21st century we teach thinking skills. Our work has been supported by a consultant from Kestrel Education. We are working towards accreditation as a thinking school from the Cognitive Education Development Unit at the University of Exeter.

We use Dr David Hyerle’s ‘thinking maps’, visual tools for learning. These maps enable the children to focus and organise their thinking before going on to produce extended pieces of work. There are some fantastic examples of work throughout the school  and yes the nursery and reception children do it too!

We have recently focused staff training on Professor Carol Dweck's  research about 'growth mindsets'  - and promote a can do attitude towards learning.

We encourage children to develop the right dispositions and attitudes for learning and have introduced our 'super 6 learning powers'. these are based on the work of Professor Guy Claxton (Building Learning Power) and Art Costa (Habits of mind).
