Dear Parents and Children,

We would like to welcome all of the new children to Linslade Lower School and of course we would like to say a big welcome back to all of the Nursery children who are already part of our setting!  We hope that you all had an enjoyable summer and are ready for an exciting autumn term at school.

This half-term we will be supporting your child in becoming fully settled and secure by helping them to develop positive relationships and through discovering and exploring their skills and interests.  We will be introducing the daily routines and school expectations which aim to equip your child with the learning skills that we call the ‘Super 6’.  Over the weeks the children will begin to think about the learning skills that will help them become life-long learners, these are; commitment, determination, collaboration, creativity, resourcefulness and reflection.

We will be focusing on your children’s personal, social and emotional development and their language development.  We will regularly sing a variety of songs and rhymes and share lots of stories about starting school, our brilliant bodies, our senses, making friends and Harvest time.

The children will be encouraged to access a wide variety of learning opportunities across the curriculum, both indoors and outdoors, so do please ensure that your child wears appropriate clothing for outdoor learning, all clearly named.

During the first six weeks of term we will be observing the children and completing a baseline assessment which will enable us to gain a clear understanding of the next steps your child requires on their learning journey.  The 2 Simple program that we use to record the children’s achievements and interests at school will be emailed to parents so that the activities and routines that your child has been participating in can be discussed together at home. They will then be sent home at the end of each half term.

We are keen to invite parents to write in the home-school link books regarding your child’s outings, experiences, interests or achievements.  We have an ‘open door’ policy so please do speak to your child’s teacher whenever you feel you need to.

We hope that you all enjoy your learning journey.  The Early Years Team  J
