At Linslade Lower School we have a supportive governing body that is made up of volunteers who strive to ensure we achieve the best possible standards of educational achievement for your children.
The rules and regulations for Governing bodies of maintained community schools are laid down by the government.
The three core strategic functions are:
a. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
b. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
c. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Our Governors bring a wealth of experience from the wider world to their role, they are not educational professionals. They meet as a full governing body twice a term and as smaller groups to focus on specific aspects throughout the school year.
There is a finance committee who monitor the finances of the school and report to the full governing body. A small group of governors oversee the Headteachers performance management, they are guided by an external consultant. There is also a Pay Committee that meets once a term to review pay and performance. Other committees are formed as required.
Each governor has at least one responsibility as a link governor. They meet regularly with key staff to carry out monitoring functions. They report back to the full governing body. Currently there are link governors for health and safety, health and wellbeing, safeguarding, progress and attainment, responsible officer and GDPR. Each year the governors carry out a 'learning walk' during the school day. They also meet regularly with the school improvement partner and survey parents at least annually. A work plan is written each year to guide the work of the governing body.
Governors have access to training locally and also organise bespoke training in school.
